Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) has entered into “an agreement in principle” to purchase the Bowdoin Square Gulf station at 239 Cambridge St., said John Messervy, director of capital and facility planning for Partners Healthcare System.
Messervy said gas station owner Jim Sauro approached the hospital less than a year ago with an offer to sell the business, which is adjacent to MGH’s main campus. “The hospital can’t ignore opportunities to purchase property [abutting] the campus,” he said.
Messervy added that the hospital had not yet entered into a purchase-and-sale agreement with the business owner.
Bowdoin Square Gulf employees declined to comment.

Oh boy, will I be happy when we get rid of all of the Gas Stations in Boston. Soon we will be rid of Grampy's and next in line we will finally be able to get rid of Bowdoin Square Gulf. Since there are none in the West End, None in the North End, Chinatown, Downtown etc. The people with the big gas guzzler
cars can all go to Cambridge, Sommerville, Medford Braintree, Quincy, RI, NH, etc. As for me I
am just going to hang an extensionchord out my window on Hancock Street. Watch out don't trop!
Hopefully MGH will still operate it as a gas station for their busses.
With this sale, we are losing one of the best mechanics in Boston, Luis Pereira, who carried on the work almost single-handedly. A large clientele from MGH will miss him (and probably follow him elsewhere). The owner spent little time there.
