Enormous crowds again descended upon our neighborhoods for First Night.

Boston Police estimated as many as 1 million people attended the 35th Annual New Year’s Eve night out – and all day affair offering ice-sculptures, music, dancing, and a Grand Parade.

Once again, there was general amazement among those who attended as well as neighborhood residents at the civility of the crowd as the day wore on to the evening and to the moment when the old year was replaced by the new.

It was unusually balmy, though the higher temperatures did not stop the fabulous ice sculpture displays on Boston Common from attracting huge crowds and interest.

Police reported no arrests or incidents on New Year’s Eve in our neighborhood.

Given the size of the crowd, it was the first great achievement of the New Year.
