FOPG Partners with City to Study Dog usage on Common

-By Dan Murphy

Friends of the Public Garden is partnering with the city to survey dog owners on their usage of the Boston Common.

Liz Vizza, executive director of the Friends group, said the survey would solicit input from dog owners in Beacon Hill, Back Bay and the Ladder District and include data gathered at the MSPCA’s clinic at the Frog Pond Sunday. Among the objectives of the study are to help determine the feasibility of rotating the current off-leash dog park at the foot of the Joy Street steps with other sites on the Common.

“We want to balance dog usage on the Common with turf and tree sustainability, and also encourage dog owners to be stewards of the park,” Vizza said.
