Department of Public Works (DPW) reviewed plans to renovate the North Washington Bridge at the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) monthly meeting held in the Nazzaro Community Center.
Commonly known as the Charlestown Bridge is slated for major repairs and renovations in the near future.
DPW representative said, “The key aspect of the new bridge will be a livable, walk able, multimodal, green and sustainable over water street bridge, that will accommodate all uses for pedestrians, cyclists and motorist.”
The North Washington Street Bridge is slated for demolition in the near future.
Design calls for wider sidewalks, gathering places, innovated accent, lighting, protected bicycle facilities and smoother walking surfaces.
During construction, one side of the bridge will be closed. All the traffic routes have been designed and police details will be assigned.
