Charles Street Inn Clears Last Hurdle in Sale

The Charles Street Inn at 94 Charles St.

After receiving approval for its proposed change of usage, the Charles Street Inn has cleared the last hurdle in its sale and will close its doors on April 16 to make way for short-term rental units, co-owner Louise Venden said.

“It’s been a pleasure to run a business in such a fabulous neighborhood, where people watch out for one another and small businesses collaborate,” said Venden, who has owned and operated the hotel with Sally Deane since 2000. “Beacon Hill is truly a neighborhood with a commitment to making residents, businesses and visitors feel welcome.”

Brent Berc and Will Avanessian, principals of the Boston Real Estate Collaborative, which owns and manages apartments in the Back Bay, South End and Mission Hill, intend to convert the inn at 94 Charles St. into four studios, four one-bedrooms and one duplex, adding a new kitchen to each unit.

The furnished units will typically rent for terms of three to 12 months at a cost of between $2,700 and $4,000 a month for studio and one-bedrooms and $4,500 to $5,000 for the duplex, Berc told members of the Beacon Hill Civic Association (BHCA) Zoning and Licensing Committee in August.

  • It would be nice if Louise was professional enough to shut down her Facebook page and phone and let people from out of town know they have closed. She has a complete disregard for peoples time.

  • I loved staying there when we went to Boston. I found Sally to be VERY condescending though. No problem with louise,Brian or the rest of the staff.
