Despite placing eighth in the race citywide, City Councilor Mike Ross garnered the most votes for mayor in Ward 5 in last Tuesday’s preliminary election.
According to the city’s unofficial election results, Ross earned 1,419 of 4,950 total votes in Ward 5, which includes Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Bay Village and the Fenway. City Councilor at-Large John Connolly, one of two finalists who will move on to the Nov. 5 election after placing second in the race citywide, trailed slightly behind with 1,416 votes.
State Rep. Marty Walsh, who won citywide will also move onto the Nov. 5 election, but he placed seventh of 12 candidates in Ward 5 after receiving 224 votes.
Besides Ross and Connolly, other top mayoral candidates includes in Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley, who garnered 579 votes; Charlotte Golar Richie, who served as state representative for the 5th Suffolk District from 1995 to 1999, with 406 votes; and political newcomer John Barros, with 325 votes.
Meanwhile, incumbent City Councilor at-Large Ayanna Pressley placed first among the 19 candidates vying for four at-large seats, with 17 percent of ballot (42,875 of 256,618 total votes.
Other at-large finalists include former City Councilor at-Large Michael Flaherty; Stephen Murphy, an incumbent city councilor at-large and current council president; Michelle Wu, a small business owner and former staff member for Elizabeth Warren’s campaign; West Roxbury attorney Martin Keogh; South End resident and longtime community activist Jeffrey Michael Ross; A. Essaibi George, a lifelong Dorchester resident, Boston Public Schools teacher and small business owner; and Jack Kelly, a lifelong Charlestown resident and Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s former liaison to that neighborhood.
