Shuttle Offered to Logan

The public commute from Logan International Airport to the Back Bay has grown considerably easier since the launch of shuttle-bus service between the two destinations earlier this spring.

As part of a two-year pilot program, Massport is now offering service between the airport Hynes Convention Center and the Copley MBTA Station on Boylston Street seven days a week, every 20 minutes starting at 5 a.m. until 9 p.m. from Back Bay and 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. from the airport. Buses stop at each airport terminal on the departure level and pick-up passengers on the arrivals level. The fare is $5 one way, payable with a credit or debit card or free for riders with a valid MBTA pass.

Massport spokesman Matt Brelis said ridership is currently at about 500 a day, but that number is expected to climb considerably with the two-year closure of the Government Center MBTA station and as more commuters learn of the pilot program.

Brelis added that 40 percent of Logan’s passengers choose a bus, public transit, taxi or shared van to reach the airport, ranking it first among airports nationally for high-occupancy vehicle use.
