George Imrey
Retired Investment Banker
George S. Imrey of Boston passed away on July 13 with members of his loving family surrounding him. He was 82 years old.
After being diagnosed with cancer, he lived fully with amazing energy and a continued zest for life until the end.
George was born in Miskolc, Hungary in 1933 and attended high school in Caracas, Venezuela. He received a BS in Business and an MS in Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He then received a JD from Harvard Law School. He had an admirable career in investment banking, but his true passions included spending time with his family, being in and on the waters of Martha’s Vineyard, and pursuing his creative and intellectual interests in literature, art, music, architecture, mathematics, and computer science.
George shared time between Martha’s Vineyard and Beacon Hill, Boston, developing strong local relationships with everyone who knew him. George was a giving, caring soul, with a deep capacity for emotional depth, human connection, and humor. He will be missed by all of us.
He leaves Sally Brewster, his life partner of over 30 years; three children from his former marriage, Celia Imrey, G. Christopher Imrey (Alouna Imrey), and Thomas Imrey (Christine Imrey); three stepchildren, Jennifer Brewster Jordan (Bret Jordan), Annie Brewster (Rick Weyerhaeuser), and David Brewster (Oleanna Klein); and 16 adoring grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held in September.
