Keeping Charles Street Clean

Due to the community’s generosity, two individuals decked in bright safety vests can be seen cleaning Charles Street’s sidewalks and tree pits every Tuesday and Friday. And Beacon Hillers are encouraged to welcome them to the neighborhood.

In May, residents and businesses joined together to support the cleaning of Charles Street by raising about $15,000 at a live auction sponsored by the Joint Charles Street Committee (JCSC) of the Beacon Hill Civic Association and the Beacon Hill Business Association. Enough funds were raised to keep the sidewalk and tree pits tidy for the next two years.

Henry Cordero and Wellington Cuello Medina, who have been cleaning regularly since late spring, are now even easier to spot. Last week JCSC Co-Chairs John Corey and Ali Ringenberg presented them with the yellow safety vests imprinted with the names of BHCA and BHBA, as well as the Hampshire House and Rosales + Partners who were major donors.

Cordero and Medina are employees of ACP Facilities Services, a New England commercial office maintenance and cleaning company.

“We have heard good feedback from Henry and Wellington about kind and friendly people in the neighborhood,” said Ringenberg. She and several other businesses owners have invited Cordero and Medina to stop by during their breaks.
