Wintermantel to Have Show at Copley Society

The Copley Society of Art is proud to present Evanescent, a solo show of oil paintings by Copley Master Mikel Wintermantel in the Back Bay Room. This exhibition opens with a reception on Thursday, June 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Copley Society, located at 158 Newbury Street, Boston, MA 02116, and continues through August 19. To coincide with the exhibition, Mikel Wintermantel will also host an artist demonstration at the gallery on Friday, June 29th from 2:00 – 4:00pm.

Copley Master Mikel Wintermantel is fascinated by the light at dawn and dusk, or as he calls it, “nature’s light show.” Inspired by luminism and the artists of the Hudson River School, Wintermantel’s landscapes capture the romantic tranquility of the natural world while simultaneously inspiring awe.

Evanescent is an exhibition that pays homage to these ever-changing landscapes. Speaking on his work, Mikel Wintermantel states that “with the vanishing landscape, the encroachment of human development, I feel it is more important than ever to document those fleeting moments of natural wonder.” Just as Mikel Wintermantel depicts a fading sunset, Evanescent reminds us that our remarkably beautiful natural surroundings are slowly fading away.

The Copley Society of Art (Co|So), America’s oldest non-profit arts organization, is committed to the advancement, enjoyment, and promotion of its member artists and the visual arts. The organization, founded in 1879, comprises juried artists who are selected by a credentialed art committee. Co|So provides artists with a gallery for exhibiting and selling their work and a platform for engaging and educating the community.
