Former Hill Resident Wins Two Snowboard Competitions

Beacon Hill native and current Maine resident Myles Silverman recently won the Finals of two snowboarding competitions.

An eighth grader at Brunswick Junior High School who lives in Brunswick and the Carrabassett Valley, Silverman still spends time in Boston every summer.

Silverman won the Nastar National Snowboard Championship for his age group (boys 13-14) for the fourth straight year. The race was held in Winter Park, Colo., on March 25 and 26.

On April 2, Silverman won the Mt. Dew Vertical Challenge Eastern Finals at Mt. Snow, Vt. He had the fastest time of any snowboarder in the competition.

In 2010, Silverman was the only child from New England to make it into the Final 10 of the Sports Illustrated Sports Kid of the Year competition.

Besides snowboarding, Silverman excels in soccer and baseball.

Silverman wants to thank the supportive administration and teachers at Brunswick Junior High School, CVA, and Chris Putnam from the Sugarloaf Ski Shop who tunes his snowboards. He also expressed his gratitude to Bern Helmets, who sponsors him, and Team 8 snowboards.
