Hill House’s ‘backyard Dash’ to Be on May 5

For the Hill House community, it’s off to the races, again!

On Saturday, May 5, at noon, Hill House will host this year’s “Backyard Dash” at Fiedler Field and the Esplanade Pathways. The event will feature the Second Annual Girls on the Run 5K, a Diaper Dash for toddlers, Fun Run/Walk for all ages, community picnic, field games, book-signing by Matt Tavares, live music and a visit from Wally the Green Monster.

All non-competitive races will take place one after the other, as in years past. The 40-yard Diaper Dash will kick-off the event, inviting toddlers and their supporters to the inner field. Following the completion of the Diaper Dash, Hill House Council member, Kathy Dander of Beacon Hill Athletic Clubs, will lead a warm-up before the start of the Family Fun-Run. At approximately 1:15 p.m., the Girls on the Run of Suffolk County will complete their spring season with a 5K run.

A new group of sponsors, volunteers and Hill House staff are sure to make this year’s Dash one to remember. Jayme Tardiff and Dan Holden, Hill House private music instructors, will take the stage, alongside some of their drum and piano students, adding energy and entertainment to the event.

For the first time, Hill House will partner with Blackstone’s of Beacon Hill. Children’s author and illustrator Matt Tavares will be on-hand for most of the afternoon to sign copies of “There Goes Ted Williams-The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived” and his other publications, including “Zachary’s Ball.” Tavares will hold drawings for two of his autographed illustrations. Proceeds from these drawings will benefit Hill House’s Scholarship Fund.

In-kind donors b.good, Big Daddy Hot Dogs, Boloco, Clif Kid, JP Licks, Whole Foods and Hint Water will come together to build this year’s picnic lunch. Corporate support from Beacon Hill Athletic Club,

Blackstone’s, Cambridge Trust Company, Core de Vie, Fenn School, FH Perry Builder, Infinity, Park Street School, Tog, Wayfair, William Raveis and Zen Japanese has helped make this event possible. Information
