The West End Branch of the Boston Public Library, located at 151 Cambridge St., will undergo building improvements in August.
The branch will receive a new roof – a process that necessitates the temporary closure of the branch. The temporary closure period will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10. Roof work will begin on Monday, Aug. 13, and is expected to be completed in less than three weeks. The library will reopen on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m.
In addition to a new roof, the library will have a new boiler installed, have some exterior paint work completed, and will be connected to the Boston Public Library’s networked energy management system, which will allow for temperature control to be handled via the BPL’s headquarters in Copley Square rather than having to dispatch a technician for changes.
During the temporary closure period, West End Branch users are encouraged to use the nearby North End Branch, located at 25 Parmenter St., and the Central Library in Copley Square, located at 700 Boylston St., as well as any of the Boston Public Library’s other locations throughout the city. An interactive map of locations is available on the Boston Public Library Web site.
