Unitarian Universalist Assoc. to Sell Hill Properties

The Unitarian Universalist Association’s headquarters at 25 Beacon St., which, along with the religious organization’s other properties on Beacon Hill, will soon hit the market.

The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) plans to sell its Beacon Hill properties and relocate to Boston’s Innovation District, representatives from the religious organization announced.

On March 14, the UUA’s board of trustees authorized the purchase of a building at 24 Farnsworth St. and subsequent sale of four buildings on the Hill.

Among the properties slated for sale is 25 Beacon St., located immediately adjacent to the Massachusetts State House. The historic building has served as the Unitarian headquarters since its construction in the 1920s, as well as the headquarters of the UUA since its formation in 1961, following the consolidation of the American Unitarian Association and Universalist Church of America.

The UUA also plans to sell its office building at 41 Mount Vernon St. that serves as the present headquarters of Beacon Press, along with properties at 6 and 7 Mount Vernon Place.

Tim Brennan, UUA treasurer and chief financial officer, spearheaded a two-year search for a new headquarters that began with a strategic analysis of the current facilities.

“After considerable research and analysis, we came to the conclusion that our current facilities on Beacon Hill were ill-suited to a contemporary, forward-looking organization and remaining in these buildings would have required millions of dollars in renovations over the next few years,” Brennan stated in a press release. The UUA will occupy three floors of a six-story building in the Fort Point section of the Innovation District and execute a lease with an option to purchase on Jan. 1, 2015.

  • What kind of "contemporary, forward-looking organization" falsely accuses a blogger of the archaic crime of blasphemous libel for allegedly making "unfounded and vicious allegations to the effect that ministers of the Association engage in such despicable crimes as pedophilia and rape"?

Especially when the UUA knows perfectly well that the comparatively few allegations that I actually have made about Unitarian Universalists engaging in such despicable crimes as pedophilia and rape are anything but unfounded. . .

  • Haha I think this guy has his religions confused. That's Catholicism theyre referring to. Maybe they got mixed up. It's okay, they're just uneducated, it's not their fault....you can't blame them for being so dumb, it's their genetics, blame their parents for procreating. Anyways, forget posts by people who have no idea what they're talking about! The UUA is the greatest American religion, & although its sad to see a historic landmark sold... I trust the board of directors in their wisdom to do so for the betterment of the religion as a whole

    • Haha I think 8T has his religions confused. That's Unitarian Universalism I'm referring to. Maybe 8T got mixed up. It's okay, 8T's just uneducated about Unitarian Universalist clergy abuse and UUA cover-up and denial thereof, it's not 8T's fault.... you can't blame 8T and other DIM Thinking U*Us for being so willfully ignorant, it's their psychological denial, blame their UUA leaders for covering up and hiding UU clergy abuse for decades. Anyways, forget posts by willfully ignorant U*Us who have NO idea what they're talking about! The UUA is a "tiny, declining, fringe religion" according to UUA President Rev. Peter Morales himself, & although it's sad to see The Place That Reeks Of Privilege And Hierachy sold down the river... I trust the UUA Board of Trustees in their wisdom to officially repudiate the Peter Morales administration's Lance Armstrong style legal bullying for the betterment of The Tiny Declining Fringe Religion™ as a whole during the January 2014 UUA Board meeting held in San Diego, California.
