Beacon Hill residents Tom and Shelly O’Neill hosted a dinner for the Abbey Theatre Foundation at Number 9 Park on Oct. 28.

The Abbey Foundation supports the National Theatre of Ireland, which was founded in Dublin in 1904 to invest in and promote new Irish writers. The theatre is still a prominent presence in Irish culture today and continues to host award-winning plays and festivals. The dinner raised awareness of the National Irish Theatre and its expansion initiatives in the U.S., beginning with Boston and New York.

“The National Theatre of Ireland is a central theme in Irish culture and history,” said Tom O’Neill, chairman of the Boston Chapter of the Abbey Theatre Foundation. “Today, the theatre hosts works of major playwrights and supports the continuing efforts to promote Irish culture and literature.”
