Fundraising Event Honors Youngest Victim of Marathon

A fundraising event at Beacon Street’s Carrie Nation on April 13 will honor Martin Richard, who at age 8, was the youngest victim in the Boston Marathon bombings.

Vicky Shen, who coached Martin, along with his siblings Jane and Henry Richard, in track and field through the Youth Enrichment Services (YES) track and field program, will be on hand for the evening to benefit the Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation Inc., a non-profit organization formed by the Richard children’s parents that invests in education, athletics and community. Shen is running this year’s Boston Marathon on behalf of Team MR8, which was established to benefit the foundation set up to pay tribute to Martin’s “message of peace and love,” according to an official statement.

The event will include a performance by the Boston-based acoustic rock band, Adam Ezra, as well as a complimentary food and cash bar. Drawings will also be held for prizes, including sports tickets, restaurant gift certificates, wine and a Boston Strong basket.

The event takes place at Carrie Nation Restaurant, located at 11 Beacon St., on Sunday, April 13, from 5 to 9 p.m. There is no charge for entry, but donations are welcome at the door.
