Beacon Hill residents Hallie Black and Amanda Howard graduated from the Brimmer and May School of Chestnut Hill at its 134th commencement ceremony.
Black was a member of the school’s Scholars Society and received the Alumni Award, which is presented to a senior who, in the opinion of the faculty, combine academic excellence with qualities of high character, giving all who know the student complete confidence in him or her as an outstanding representative of Brimmer and May. She also received the Deborah Harvey Jones Award, which honors graduating seniors who, like Jones, began at Brimmer and May in elementary school and stayed the course to graduation. She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Jody Black, and will attend Cornell University in the fall.
Head of Upper School Joseph Iuliano said of Howard during his commencement speech, “She is interested in politics, government and law. Amanda is a serious student with her goals firmly in mind. As her advisor and teacher, I have always enjoyed my conversations with Amanda. She played varsity soccer and basketball for three and four years, respectively, and helped the school win its first ever New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Championship in varsity girls’ basketball. In addition, she captained teams in both sports this year. Amanda also participated in Model UN.”
Howard received the Global Studies Diploma in addition to a regular diploma. She is the daughter of Robert and Carolyn Howard, and will attend Loyola University in Maryland.
