Fetch those Photos:Esplanade Association Kicks Off ‘Dog Days Of Summer in the Park’ Photo Contest

The Esplanade Association, the 100-percent privately funded friends group for the Charles River Esplanade, has announced its “Dog Days of Summer on the Esplanade” social media photo contest.

Starting June 10 and ending Aug. 19, the Esplanade Association will be celebrating the canine companions in local Bostonian’s lives.  For this contest, the Esplanade Association is looking for photos of dogs of all shapes and sizes enjoying their time on the Esplanade, whether running on the pathways, taking a nap on the docks, playing catch on the Hatch Shell great lawn or just taking in the views of the river.

“The Dog Days of Summer in the Park” photo contest is a fun way to bring attention to the Esplanade Association’s campaign to restore the park’s historic Lotta Fountain to a place of cultural significance and resource for pets and their owners. The six-foot stone dog fountain was constructed in 1939 in the name of entertainer and philanthropist Lotta Crabtree, and for generations, it provided a destination for dog owners visiting the Charles River Esplanade.

However after years of neglect, the fountain no longer works and needs significant conservational and engineering repairs. With the public’s support, the restorations of this treasured and useful landmark is expected to be complete in the fall of 2016.

To enter the social media photo contest, share photos with the Esplanade Association using Instagram or Facebook. There will be twelve winning entrants selected who will then be featured in the first annual “Dogs of the Esplanade” calendar.  The calendar will be sold through the organization’s Web site starting in November with the proceeds going to the maintenance of the Lotta Fountain.

The winners will also be featured on the organization’s Web site throughout the year and have the opportunity to participate in the official ribbon-cutting ceremony of the newly restored Lotta Fountain.

Photo entries can be submitted between June 10 and Aug.19.  Winners will be announced on Sept. 12 on the organization’s Web site (www.esplanadeassociation.org).

Photos can be submitted through Instagram or Facebook.
