‘Holiday Stroll’ Returns Thursday

One of the neighborhood’s most highly anticipated, seasonal events, the “Beacon Hill Holiday Stroll,” sponsored by the Beacon Hill Business Association, returns on Thursday.

Between 6 and 9 p.m., both sides of the five blocks of Charles Street between Cambridge and Beacon streets will be closed to traffic, clearing the way for holiday shoppers to visit neighborhood restaurants, shops and businesses that will offer free snacks and refreshments. Other attractions will be photos with Santa at the Firehouse at 127 Mt. Vernon St. from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., as well as performances by the Apollo Club Men’s Singing Group, Back Bay Bell Ringers, King’s Chapel Choir and the Brass Quartet throughout the evening.

The evening’s highlight will undoubtedly be the tree-lighting ceremony at Mt. Vernon and Charles streets at 7 p.m., at which time the first- second- and third place winners for the annual Joint Charles Street Committee’s “Charles Street Storefront Decorating Contest” will be announced.

Horse-drawn carriage rides will follow the tree lighting.
