Beacon Hill Restaurant Fixture Harvard Gardens and American Cancer Society Work Together Against Cancer

The American Cancer Society has recently grown its partnership with Harvard Gardens, a Beacon Hill neighborhood restaurant since 1930. Just steps away from Massachusetts General Hospital and close to world-renowned cancer research facilities, Harvard Gardens (https://harvardgardens.com) offers “American cuisine, local beers, creative drinks, sultry atmosphere,” at 316 Cambridge St, Boston MA.

NCAA Basketball Watch Party

Harvard Gardens in March 2018 partnered with the American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs. Cancer program to present “NCAA Watch Party With a Cause.” Restaurant-goers were invited to complete an NCAA basketball tournament bracket, and a portion of their entry fee was donated to the Society. The watch party included folks having fun, rooting for their favorite teams and receiving free themed swag.

“We wanted to be a part of something that was serious, fun and supportive at the same time,” said Harvard Gardens General Manager Michael Minchoff. “Working with Coaches vs. Cancer during March Madness provided that opportunity. Coaches vs. Cancer is an organization doing great things. We look forward to continuing this partnership next year and beyond.”

Researchers Gatherings

Harvard Gardens also partnered with the Society in May 2017 and February 2018 to provide space and appetizers for American Cancer Society-funded Researchers Gatherings. These informal meet-ups of some of the most promising minds in the country studying cancer, its causes, prevention and treatments, provided an informal way to connect and to learn about how they can get involved with the Society’s fundraisers and volunteer programs.

“Harvard Gardens has been so generous with its space and support,” said Brian Casalinova, community development manager, American Cancer Society. “We’re honored such an iconic spot has joined our mission to save lives, celebrate lives and lead the fight for a world without cancer.”

The Outcome

  • This first year of the NCAA Watch Party With a Cause saw 40 participants raise approximately $400 for the Society’s lifesaving mission. Plans are already in the works for a January 2019 promotion.
  • The location provides a key touchpoint for the American Cancer Society to engage with Boston- and Cambridge-based cancer researchers.

The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of nearly 2 million volunteers dedicated to saving lives, celebrating lives, and leading the fight for a world without cancer. For more information go to www.cancer.org or call 800-227-2345.
