Nichols House Museum, located at 55 Mount Vernon St. in Beacon Hill has been awarded a $125,000 Capital grant from Mass Cultural Council. This Cultural Facilities Fund matching grant will be used to support the Museum’s Collections Conservation Project, a $400,000 project which will replace the outdated climate control system of the Museum with a new system appropriate for the heating, cooling, and dehumidifying needs of a museum collection. The project will also be accompanied by building upgrades to improve the energy efficiency of the Museum and to allow the new mechanical systems to operate at optimal performance levels. These upgrades include additional window conservation, interior storm windows, and insulation and air sealing of the attic floor and rear building ell. The Museum continues to raise funds this spring with the goal of beginning work on the project this fall. The Nichols House Museum is a private, nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation with the mission to preserve and interpret the 1804 Federal townhouse that was home to landscape gardener, suffragist, and pacifist Rose Standish Nichols and her family. The Museum is currently open for tours Tuesday through Saturday, 11AM – 4 p.m. Visit www.nicholshousemuseum.org for further information.
