Charles Street Market Owner Buys Beacon Hill Market

The Beacon Hill Market at Anderson and Myrtle streets.

The owner of Charles Street Market has purchased the Beacon Hill Market at 55 Anderson St.

Tracy L. Hollander bought the market from Victor and Dee Patel, the husband and wife who have owned the convenience store since 2006. The Patels have relocated to Queens N.Y., where they will own and operate the Winchester Deli, Victor said.

Hollander said the Beacon Hill Market is modeled after his other business and will feature window seating, as well as a full-service coffee bar and deli offering Iggy’s Bread and other local foods found at the Charles Street location.

“We’re looking to make it a nice, clean market for that part of the Hill…the type of place you would look at and say, ‘What a great place,’” Hollander said. “We want to make it as close as we can to [Charles Street Market], and hopefully, people will like that.”

The lottery is one service being discontinued under the new ownership – a decision Hollander said was based on the small revenue that it has historically generated at the store.

Hollander asks customers to be patient during the first month of operation while renovations are still underway and welcomes them to fill out the suggestion sheet at the store.

“We ask people to come in and tell us what they want,” Hollander said.
