The Beacon Hill Civic Association (BHCA) will join Park Street School officials Oct. 16 for an informal meeting to vet the school’s proposed expansion into the adjacent building at 124 Chestnut St.
The school, located at 67 Brimmer St., intends to purchase and renovate the adjoining residential building to “provide more space for current programs for students, kindergarten through grade six, and provide outdoor space in the enclosed courtyard behind the house,” according to the BHCA.
Construction would be substantially interior work, such as the addition of an entrance from the existing school building to the new space, while the exterior façade would be virtually unchanged and remain residential in appearance. Minor repair and maintenance (e.g. masonry pointing) are the only exterior changes anticipated.
The project is expected to require zoning relief from the city, including a change of occupancy from residence to school use, a groundwater recharge permit and an extension of an existing non-conforming (school) use.
The meeting takes place at the Park Street School, 67 Brimmer St., on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m.
