This smiling jack-o’-lantern was one of hundreds that were floated on the Boston Common Frog Pond during Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s Fall Pumpkin Festival hosted by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department on Oct. 27.
The free event drew an estimated 2,000 revelers of all ages who enjoyed a Halloween parade, ParkSCIENCE activities, and puppet, magic and giant bubble shows. Other activities included games and giveaways by Magic 106.7 and snacks and refreshments provided by New England Coffee, National Dairy Council’s Fuel Up to Play and Archway Cookies.
In addition, attendees donated canned food to CANshare, Menino’s annual food drive for those in need. The festival was presented in partnership with the Skating Club of Boston and sponsors Building Restoration Services Corporation and BRS Cares with additional support provided by Mass Farmers Markets, Boston Cares, Hailo Boston, Foppema’s Farm, Dick’s Market Garden, Silver Mine Farm and the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts.
