On Thursday evening, June 2, close to 300 runners participated in the inaugural Esplanade 5K Sunset Run along the Charles River Esplanade.
Presented by the Esplanade Association, this evening race brought together runners from throughout the community, with many bringing along their dogs to run the beautiful course with them. The top winners, both from Beacon Hill, were Evan Meisler winning the men’s division with a time of 16:57; and Erin Abraham winning for the women with a time of 21:04.
The event raised over $26,000 for the Esplanade Association’s campaign to restore the historic Lotta Fountain, so that it may once again be enjoyed as a place of cultural significance and a resource for pets and their owners. Because the Esplanade Association receives no funding from the city or state, public support is crucial to guarantee that they can continue their work to maintain and improve the park for all. The restoration of the Lotta Fountain is a part of the organization’s much larger vision to make life better on the Esplanade and ensure that the park continues to serve the greater community..
The first annual Esplanade 5K was made possible with the generous support from the following sponsors: Wayfair, Unit Realty Group, Dashing Whippets, Cocobeet and Eckert Seaman’s Attorney at Laws, as well as with kind support from JP Licks, Clif Bar, Stop & Shop, Sparkling Ice, Polar Beverages, Muscle Milk, Marathon Sports and Pawsh Dog Boutique.
