The Chestnuts Friends Over 50’s 2023-2024 season has ended.
While many of the friendship that developed during the year will continue, the Chestnuts will officially break from activities and events during the summer and resume all again Sept. 1.
During the first two weeks of September, The Chestnuts will accept new members. Women over 50 in the Boston area seeking fun, philanthropy, and friendship are welcome to fill out a membership application at the Chestnut website (Chestnut-friends.squarespace.com).
The application will be available online Aug. 1.
To help new members best assimilate, the group, whose youngest member is 50 and eldest is 86, will hold three new member events spread throughout the year.
In the second half of the season, the Chestnuts raised almost $7,000 for local charities, learned canasta and mahjong, shared cooking ideas, read and discussed many books, walked the Esplanade, lunched at restaurants throughout the city, met for discussion in small groups at members’ homes, attended theatrical events, took tours, and started an armchair travel group. All events are member led. In the fall, plans are being made for monthly community coffees held out in in some of the many local coffee shops.
