With the summer of ’26 at about its midpoint, Area A-1 had seen a 9-percent reduction in incidents of violent and property crime from last year.
According to Boston Police, between Jan. 1 and July 12 of this year, 1,070 incidents of Part One crime were reported in the district, which includes Beacon Hill, Chinatown, Downtown, and the North End, compared to 1,135 during the same timeframe in 2025. This year marked also a slight decrease in Part One crime from the district’s five-year average of 1,084 incidents.
No homicides have been reported in the district this year, compared to one in 2025, while the district’s five-year average for this category was 1.6 incidents.
Rapes and attempted rapes were down around 33 percent as the number fell to eight from 12 last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 12.4 incidents.
Robberies and attempted robberies were down nearly 23 percent, with the number falling to 17 from 23 incidents last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 74.2 incidents.
Incidents of domestic aggravated assault nearly doubled as the number climbed to 25 from 13 last year, while the district’s five-year average for this category was 14.6 incidents.
Incidents of non-domestic aggravated assault climbed more than 18 percent, with 116 this year, compared to 98 in 2025. The district’s five-year average for this category was 109.2 incidents.
Incidents of commercial burglary decreased more than 49 percent as the number fell to 32 from 63 last year, while the district’s five-year average for this category was 40 incidents.
Incidents of residential burglary dropped around 26 percent, with the number falling to 17 from 23 last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 24.6 incidents.
Incidents of larceny from a motor vehicle were down nearly 46 percent as the number fell to 53 from 98 last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 108.2 incidents.
Other larcenies were up slightly as the number climbed to 721 from 711 incidents last year, while the district’s five-year average for this category was significantly less at 649.4 incidents.
Incidents of auto theft saw a slight decline, with the number falling to 41 from 42 last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 50 incidents.
Citywide, Part One crime was up 2 percent as the number of incidents climbed to 8,533 from 8,373 last year. The city also seen a more than 5 percent increase in Part One crime incidents this year, compared to the five-year average of 8,093 incidents.
