While incumbent U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch was reelected to his 9th Congressional District seat in last Tuesday’s primary election, Beacon Hill and West End voters favored his Democratic rival Mac D’Alessandro at the polls.

According to the city’s unofficial election results, approximately 71 percent of Beacon Hill voters in Ward 3, Precinct 6 and Ward 5, Precincts 3, 4, 5 and 11 supported D’Alessandro while Lynch trailed at 29 percent.

In the West End (Ward 3, Precinct 5), D’Alessandro received around 58 percent of the votes as Lynch garnered 42 percent of the ballots cast.

In contrast, 68 percent of voters citywide supported Lynch, with 32 percent backing D’Alessandro.

Lynch will now face GOP Vernon Harrison of Braintree in November’s election.
