Nichols House Museum Announces a Festive 2011 Holiday Schedule

Nichols House Museum staff and board members stuff invitations to the 18th annual Beacon Hill Holiday House Tour on Dec. 11.

What are some of the traditions that make for festive holidays on Beacon Hill?

The Nichols House Museum, located at 55 Mount Vernon St. on Beacon Hill, has some suggestions with its seasonal offerings that have proved popular and much anticipated throughout the year. These include themed holiday decorations, the Beacon Hill Bell Ringers’ traditional eggnog recipe, a house tour of elegantly appointed Beacon Hill homes and seasonal refreshments for the neighborhood at the Nichols House Museum Open House.

Upcoming events include:

• On Saturday, Dec. 3, the Nichols House Museum’s halls will be decked with decorations carefully chosen to reflect the historic color palette in the museum’s authentic interiors.

• On Tuesday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m., friends and neighbors can enjoy the ever-popular Holiday Eggnog Party.

The highlight of the evening is the eggnog made with the decades’ old recipe of the Beacon Hill Bell Ringers.

• On Sunday, Dec. 11, from noon to 4 p.m., the 18th annual Beacon Hill Holiday House Tour will take place on Sunday, Dec. 11. Eight beautiful private residences will be open for this elegant fundraiser to benefit the museum’s preservation projects and public programming.

This year, the reception following the House Tour will be held at the American Meteorological Society, 45 Beacon St., from 3 to 5 p.m.

• On Friday, Dec. 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the community is invited to the Nichols House Museum Open House on Dec. 16. Guests will be able to tour the museum with a professional guide, view the decorated interiors and enjoy mulled cider and holiday sweets.
