In conjunction with “Boston Shines” – the city’s annual spring cleanup – the Beacon Hill Civic Association (BHCA) and the Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay (NABB) are organizing volunteer efforts to beautify their respective neighborhoods on Saturday.
The BHCA Streets and Sidewalks Committee asks interested citizens to take part in the Hill cleanup from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The committee will distribute cleaning materials at the Phillips Street Playground, located behind 19 Phillips St., and outside of Charles Street Supply at 54 Charles St. Besides sweeping sidewalks and curbs throughout the Hill, volunteers will also help mulch at the Phillips Street Playground and remove debris from lamp-posts. For more information, call 617-227-1922.
“We would love to have all hands on deck and as many participants in ‘Boston Shines’ as possible,” said Rajan Nanda, committee chair. “Even if you just do it for just five or 10 minutes, that’s great. Here is your opportunity to make Beacon Hill even a brighter jewel in Boston’s crown.”
NABB, meanwhile, asks interested parties to join Alley Rally 2013 on April 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. Through donations from local businesses, NABB will offer coffee, juice and donuts at the Clarendon Street Playground, located at Clarendon Street and Commonwealth Avenue, at 8:30 a.m. before dividing into groups and heading off to clean at 9 a.m. Afterwards, NABB will provide volunteers with a picnic lunch (again, made possible through donations from local businesses) at the playground. “When ‘Boston Shines’ occurs, now more than ever, especially in the Back Bay, we have to help the residential and business communities move forward,” City Councilor Mike Ross said.
