Linens on the Hill owner Lynne Wolverton is in serious training mode for the upcoming Jimmy Fund Boston Marathon Walk.
The annual fundraiser began 25 years ago – the same year Lynne opened her shop on Charles Street. The Jimmy Fund Boston Marathon Walk has generated more than $87 million since its inception.
“This is serious,” Wolverton said. “The Marathon Walk supports cancer research and treatment at Dana Farber. It has helped thousands of people.”
And it poses a formidable personal challenge for Wolverton as well: “I have never walked 26 miles, and I have only five weeks remaining before the Sep. 8 event,” she said.
Wolverton and teammate Marty Kane train on the Marathon route itself. When time allows, they take the T to the Newton/Wellesley line and walk 10 miles from the “firehouse turn” to the Finish Line at Copley Square. “I’ll know the way – I won’t get lost,” she quipped.
To further advance the cause of cancer research and treatment, Wolverton is asking friends and associates to support her walk by making a contribution to Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
