Beacon Hill Civic Association Community Corner

This Wednesday – Historic Preservation Roundtable

Come to the Museum of African American History this Wednesday evening, August 22nd at 6pm for a thought provoking discussion of “Sacred Spaces as Civic Places” and the challenges of restoring historically religious buildings, particularly when they are adapted for modern and/or civic use.

This event’s panel includes three experts with great experience restoring some of Beacon Hill’s most diverse and important religious buildings including Barnet Kessel, Executive Director of the Vilna Shul; Marita Rivero, Executive Director of the Museum of African American History; and Don Mills, architect at Mills Whittaker Architects. The discussion will be moderated by Mark Kiefer, former President and Chairman of the Beacon Hill Civic Association who also previously served on the Beacon Hill Architectural Commission.

Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served after the discussion.

BHCA Fall HillFest – Sunday, September 23rd noon-4 p.m.

Summer may be winding down but plans for this year’s Fall HillFest are heating up! The Beacon Hill Civic Association, in its mission to build community, looks forward to organizing this neighborhood activity each year.

In addition to the famous Book Sale, this year’s fest will feature a dog show with Paul Odelson and Joe Schutt, and over 20 neighborhood nonprofits tables with games for the children. After the Hill House’s great pancake breakfast on Sunday morning, we’ll have pizza, hotdogs (grilled by our BHCA board members), ice cream, Harpoon beer for the grown-ups, and many more surprises. So save the date to come down to Mt. Vernon Street for some fun with your family and neighbors!
