A cut above: Kikuichi knives come to the Hill

For more than 750 years, the Kikuichi name has been synonymous with craftsmanship. Once renowned for forging samurai swords, the Japanese company now channels its legacy into world-class kitchen knives cherished by chefs and home cooks alike.

On Saturday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Blackstone’s of Beacon Hill will host an exclusive demonstration featuring Kikuichi knives. Harry Rosenblum, general manager of Kikuichi North America, will be on hand to showcase the artistry and performance that set these knives apart.

Attendees will have the opportunity to handle Kikuichi knives, learn about their history and care, and purchase rare and hard-to-find styles. Blackstone’s, known as New England’s largest cutlery store, is one of the few local retailers to carry the brand.

Why Kikuichi stands out

Each blade is marked with the chrysanthemum symbol, signifying both quality and the company’s historic ties to Japan’s royal family. The knives are celebrated for their razor-sharp edges, lightweight design, and remarkable edge retention. Many also feature Damascus steel patterns or hammered finishes, marrying functionality with beauty.

Caring for tradition

Owners are encouraged to handwash their knives, dry them immediately, and sharpen as needed. Kikuichi provides lifetime sharpening services (shipping costs apply), and Blackstone’s offers professional sharpening locally.

A community invitation

“Blackstone’s is honored to bring such a historic brand to our customers,” said the store’s team. “This event is a chance to experience firsthand why Kikuichi knives are considered a cut above.”

Even if you cannot attend the demonstration, Blackstone’s carries a wide selection of Kikuichi knives in-store and online.

The Oct. 18 event is free and open to the public.
