Longtime Beacon Hill resident Miguel Rosales, who has been the recipient of countless awards and accolades for his gardening skills over the years, was the recent recipient of two more prestigious horticultural awards from the Garden Club of America and the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, respectively.
Rosales was honored with the Garden Club of America’s Rosie Jones Horticulture Award at the club’s America Zone 1 Flower Show, ‘Reimagine,’ on Sep. 16 at the Hilton Dedham Hotel. His entry “showcased a rare combination of Alocasia Zebrina and Alocasia Frydek variegated plants,” said Rosales, earning six first-place blue ribbons for plants in several classes at the show.
For his second recent honor, Rosales received the Thompson Begonia Award in recognition of the finest begonia exhibited at the 139th Massachusetts Horticultural Society Flower Show, ‘World in Bloom,’ held on Sept. 21, at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s Garden at Elm Bank in Wellesley.
“I was delighted to win this award with my entry of a Begonia ‘Yamileth,’ renowned for its spectacular metallic shine and a captivating blend of grey, green, and purple leaves,” said Rosales, who won an unprecedented 12 first-place blue ribbons for plants in several classes at the show.
Of the recent recognition, Rosales said: “I am delighted to have received two prestigious major horticulture awards from the Garden Club of America and the Massachusetts Horticultural Society for my horticulture entries. I have enjoyed cultivating, propagating, and caring for my plants, and it is gratifying to be recognized with these notable accolades.”
